Solar Activity
Solar activity was at low levels. The largest event of the period was a C3.3/Sf flare from near newly numbered Region 4160 (S08E47, Hrx/alpha). This region has already shown signs of decay as it rotated further onto the visible disk. Region 4149 (N17W20. Eko/beta) added a C1.7 and C1.4 flare at 26/1334 UTC and 26/1517 UTC, respectively. The vast majority of the regions remained mostly unchanged and quiet. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed in available coronagraph imagery. .Forecast... Solar activity is likely to be low with a chance for M-class flares (R1-R2/Minor-Moderate) over 27-29 July.
Solar Wind
The solar wind environment reflected continued weak influence from a negative polarity coronal hole through the first half of the period. Total field ranged from 4-7 nT, no significant southward periods of the Bz component were observed, and solar wind speeds varied from ~480-530 km/s. The phi angle was in a predominately negative orientation. At around 26/0900 UTC, total field increased to ~11 nT and wind speeds increased slightly to around 600 km/s, with Bz dropping southward to near -10 nT around 26/1200 UTC. Phi angle then moved into a positive orientation just after 26/1600 UTC.
Energetic Particle
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux reached high levels with a peak of 2,510 pfu at 26/1240 UTC. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was steady at background levels throughout the period.
